Packing Day - I usually suggest not exposing the pets to the stress of moving day(s), but how cute is this guy?

CHALLENGE

Busy professionals decided to combine households. Years of living single meant lots of accumulated stuff and lots of duplicate items - not the fresh start my client was seeking.

SOLUTION

Thoughtful editing helped identify the items that supported my client's vision of her new life in her new home.  If it didn't support the vision, it wasn't allowed to claim space in the new place.

LESSONS LEARNED

1) Edit before you move - Don't bring old clutter into your new space.  Bring only things that will enhance your new life in your new home.

2) Invest time in Pre-Move Prep - A successful move starts with:

  • SOS (Sorting, Organizing and Streamlining)

    • Assign “homes” for everything moving to your new space. Grouping things going to the same room, closet, drawer, etc. reduces the pain of finding multiple “mystery” boxes you need to sort when you unpack.

  • LoL (Lots of Labels)

    • Clearly label the “homes” for your items to help get everything to the right space and make unpacking exponentially easier.

3) Hire good movers - Make sure you trust the company who will be handling all of your worldly possessions!
